With one Grandfather a sommelier and a Great Grandfather who was a brewer, it was only
a matter of time before Giesen brothers - Theo, Alex and Marcel caught the craft beer bug!
Best known as the name behind Giesen Wines - Theo, Alex and Marcel Giesen
have turned their talents to the growing local craft beer industry.
Their Great Grandfather, Leonhard Kaiser was a brewer, who with his brother
(the boys’ great uncle) began Kaiser Brewery in Germany. So drawing upon this family legacy and a passion for quality drinking experiences - using the original brewers’ records and recipes the Giesen boys have established The Brown Beer Company in Christchurch, New Zealand.

PLAINS LAGER
From the Canterbury Plains we craft this lager to give a golden rich malt profile enhanced with a clean crisp finish.
PILSNER
This Pilsner has all
the BROWN BEAR necessities of citrus
hop aromas and well balanced bitterness.
And just like any good Pilsner, it’s crisp, dry
and refreshing.
BAVARIAN WHEAT BEER
This Bavarian style
cloudy wheat beer is crafted using Weizen yeast and the usual wheat and barley malt. The perfect summer
thirst quencher.
ENGLISH STYLE ALE
As English as Paddington BEAR (he’s actually from Peru!), this Premium Ale
is a bitter beer with a cushion of soft sweet caramel aromas and
a tangy finish.
GRIZZLY DARK ALE
Our Porter-style
Dark Ale displays
aromas of toasted dark malts and flavours reminiscent of cocoa.
This is matched by a caramel malty sweetness in harmony with a trim spicy hop bitterness.
